Whew! Day 7, finally...

That was a long "break". I was really worried that coming back to the game after all the excitement of the last months would be really stressful. But, I was wrong. We actually stopped playing right before a black (enemy) space. So, it made for a great "review" and battle. Taylor rolled an adult enemy, created a "color sucker" (because of the art challenge that is attached to being inside the castle), and rolled a low 10 for questions. He beat the color sucker and earned a bonus (10K or less) free weapon from the store. He was required to write a paragraph about the battle; this will increase in size with each level up, as with so much of the game. We also reviewed all of the usual requirements for the Camelot theme. It was great to have a list of resources, all related to the theme, ready to go. We just pulled them out and got busy. The ten terrific weeks program, the castle project, the story of Arthur and the knights, the timeline, and several new resources that I found over the summer. Taylor started a castle with the clay he loves so much, so we allowed that to satisfy the art requirement for the day. The battle was the finale and covered all the web reports. In the future, battles will cover the "battle book" that I will create as we study each day (just questions that will cover some of the things we learn, recorded as we go), all web reports, and any other method we discover for cashing in the slips of knowledge. (As Taylor levels up I will add methods of turning in tags, so that the web reports don't feel like a repetitive trap for him.) Thank goodness Taylor chose the black space and didn't go the other direction. He earned 25 K and 25 exp. points for defeating the beast; and earned 4 exp. points and 60 K for his web report. I was a little disappointed that he didn't get any questions wrong, because he didn't get to experience the "research blow" that a beast can deal. But, there will be other battles. In fact, Taylor is planning the shortest path to the next black space. =)
